Our History
The company that is today called Prompt Precision Manufacturing, Inc. was founded in 1988 as the brainchild of its founder, Don Widdifield, who had a clear and detailed vision of the company’s direction. That vision has continued to guide its path into the future, as Prompt emerges as a global leader in precision sheet metal fabrication.
Don Widdifield made the lifechanging decision to break into business in precision sheet metal. That was the year he founded Prompt Precision Metals to serve the Silicon Valley with high-quality, reasonably priced metal products. He envisioned a company that would keep its operations lean while consistently investing in its own future.
Prompt Precision was founded on the ideals of uncompromising value and service.
Vertical integration has always been built into the founding of Prompt: We make complex projects simple.
Widdifield’s team quickly got started on the few projects it had from a small customer base. With each successful project, Prompt’s reputation grew and referrals kept building. The company had every intention and capacity to grow along with its clients.
By 1994, the team at Prompt moved out of their rented facility and into its first owner-occupied building. Within two years, the plant increased to 25,000 square feet, and the team had grown to 35 skilled, dedicated workers.
Within two years the company’s vertical integration strategy came into sharp focus. By 1996, the company offered powder paint, wet paint, and silk screening. By 2000, the company offered value-added assembly. Customers continued to send their colleagues to Prompt, and business continued to grow for the company.
In 2001 Prompt moved into a newly built, ultra-modern 55,000-square-foot facility that was specifically constructed and tailored to maximize process efficiencies and sustain the continued commitment to lean manufacturing.

In 2008, to celebrate 20 years in business, Don updated the company name to Prompt Precision Manufacturing. The new name more accurately represents the enhanced scope and forward moving direction of the company in today’s global environment.
Today, Prompt occupies 55,000 square feet of factory space, housing the most up-to-date equipment in the industry, employs a sizeable and capable workforce, and provides services and products to an extensive customer base of OEM’s and Contract Manufacturers.
